I think everyone knew that Taylor Swift was going to endorse Kamala Harris. She had endorsed Biden four years ago and after Donald Trump’s minions created that AI-generated endorsement of her, she was pissed. Trump’s Vice President JD Vance’s derogatory statements about this country being ruined by childless cat ladies didn’t help since she gleefully identifies as a childless cat lady.
It was genius that moments after the first, and only, Harris/Trump debate had ended, and while pundits were analyzing Harris’ defeat of Trump, Swift posted her endorsement of Harris, as well as link to voter registration.
Vance had once said that he didn’t think the political opinion of a “celebrity billionaire” would influence the election, but within 24 hours of her announcement, Swift had registered more than 400,000 new voters through her site.
As well as garnered the Harris endorsement of Stevie Nicks, one of Swift’s influencers and a female Boomer icon. Followed by a resounding dismissal of Trump by another beloved Boomer musician, Linda Ronstadt, who was pissed that Trump was holding one of his rallies in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona in an amphitheater named after her.
With nearly 50 days left till the election, many believe that the vote depends on turnout not converting Trumpers or even so-called ‘undecideds” who may not even vote. If Taylor Swift can get her generation of new voters to register and get to the polls, she just might be the most powerful political weapon Harris has.
It would be so fitting to see the Trump/Vance ticket taken down by the most powerful childless cat lady in the world.
