My Favorite Halloween Costumes of 2024

By David T. Valentin

It’s that time of the year again, only this year, I’m the one who’s late to the game! Is anybody going to write an article for “Last Minute Halloween Costume Articles when you’re on a deadline?”

Well, you may be right about that BUT I’d prefer to say I’m actually a whole year EARLY. How about them apples? So, for this year (despite my “best last minute costumes for Halloweekend” article being late), we’re going to be doing the best costumes of 2024 and then next year I’ll just republish this, change the intro and title, and no one will ever have a clue what happened. It’s a win-win for both the writer and the reader, am I right?

But enough dilly dallying and let’s get to it! My top 5 favorite couples costumes:

Now, this I think is a classic but I haven’t really seen it in action until I saw a TikTok of it. With the entire get up—wigs, accessories, appropriate clothing, and most importantly attitude and personality—it was hysterical seeing exaggerated caricatures of somebody’s partner. Luckily, it seemed no one was hurtful in their personas (that is until they made it home after behind closed doors).

The Mayor of Townsville and the enigmatic Ms. Sara Bellum from the Power Puff Girls

This weekend I was watching a friend's story, a video she posted from a Halloween Party she either hosted or attended. In the video, I saw one of my best friends in a tall, high red wig, a fitted red dress with red heels that had to have placed her around 6'. With the wig in the way, it wasn’t until I saw a close up of her with her husband and another photo with part of her head cut off (as is usual with Ms Bellum) and her husband on his knees to replicate The Mayor of Townsville hilariously cartoonish short height.

What made it so iconic was the dedication to the accuracy, going so far as to craft many of the pieces for the mayor. But what did I expect from a couple that frequently attends and cosplays at various conventions?

That Time of the Month costumes.

About a week ago, our Publisher Lori Perkins sent over a few costume ideas from I Support The Girls organization’s most recent newsletter which featured: period, uterus, vulva and tampon costumes that are all hilariously simple in design and so creatively fun at the same time.

Heartstopper Characters

I’m not sure if I featured this last year during season two’s premiere but I thought it fitting to feature it now, especially considering the shows exponentially growing as Joe Locke stars as Billy Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch’s son, and Kit Connor stars as Romeo on Romeo and Juliet on Broadway.Theres a good mix of characters featured in Heart Stopper for couples and even entire friend groups. And that brings us to…

Agatha All Along

I’m actually surprised that I didn’t see MORE costumes of the show’s characters. In particular, I don’t think I saw any Agatha’s and Rio—two former lovers now turned bitter rivals. The tension between the two, the chemistry between the actors and the complexity of their characters, makes for a fun couples’ costume for Sapphic couples. This can also be a fun friends group’s given the amazing costumes fashioned around the fabulous main cast featured throughout the various trials.Although I haven’t seen many friend’s groups going as Agatha’s coven, I have seen a few Agatha’s and some really creative Billy Maximoffs.
