I love Beaujolais Nouveau, the new (meaning 2025) French red wine that is held back by French law until the third Thursday of November when they allow us plebs outside France to sample it. This is the newly harvested wine from this year, and is fruitier than the more fermented varieties. To my friends who have never had it, I describe is as Manischewitz but French and without the tannins.
Last year’s was not so great, but this year is wonderful! And even with the tariffs, you can still get a bottle for between $15 and $20, something to indeed be thankful for in this erratic economy. It will make a great Thanksgiving or Christmas presents
In France, there are Beaujolais festivals, the largest one being in the Beaujolais region, where there is a five-day event.. On Wednesday night, hundreds of wine lovers eagerly awaited the start of the festival in the sleepy village of Beaujeu, some 50 kilometers north of Lyon.
But the celebration goes n throughout the word. There is new wine festival in Swansea in Wales and there’s even celebrations in Japan. And in my small apartment in Riverdale in NYC, I have my own Beaujolais festival of wine and cheese.
