CineKink NYC returns for its 16th annual appearance April 3-7 bringing with it a specially-curated program of films and videos that celebrate and explore a wide diversity of sexuality. In addition to screenings, the festival also includes a short film competition, presentations, audience choice awards, a fund-raising kick-off gala and a concluding "AfterGlow" party. Filmmaker Jennifer Lyon Bell, an award-winning alumni of multiple editions of the festival, will be the featured artist and will be presented with the first-ever CineKink Artist Spotlight award.
Billing itself as "the kinky film festival," the CineKink organization is directed by Lisa Vandever to recognize and encourage sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television. Works featured at CineKink NYC range from documentary to drama, comedy to experimental, mildly spicy to quite explicit --and everything in between.
"It's stunning how sex-positive filmmaking has evolved in the years we've been presenting the festival," said Lisa Vandever, co-founder and director of CineKink. "We had such amazing works to choose from this season, from the countless alumni filmmakers we’ve showcased, and from many newcomers. It’s a pleasure to offer such a rich and diverse festival line-up."
CineKink will showcase the US premiere of Jennifer Lyon Bell’s latest film, Adorn, along with a behind-the-scenes documentary about its making, during the shorts program Work It, which profiles the passion--and work--that goes into making sex-positivity one’s mission and business. Bell will be on hand following the screening for an audience discussion on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m.
Bell will also offer a reprise of her popular filmmaking workshop, From Fantasy to Film: Design Your Own Porn. Intended as a beginner’s creative exploration, attendees will be given the tools to plan and envision their very own porn movie—whether they later decide to pick up a camera and do it, or whether they just like knowing that they could.
The CineKink NYC festivities start Wednesday, April 3, at 8:00 p.m. with a fundraising kick-off extravaganza at M1-5 Lounge, 52 Walker Street. The festival then moves to Anthology Film Archives at 32 Second Avenue from Thursday, April 4- 6 with several different film programs scheduled for each day. A filmmaking workshop, an awards celebration and an AfterGlow play party at Bowery Bliss complete the festival's run on Sunday, April 7.
