Foodies, save the date: Smorgasburg is coming back this year June 13.
One of NYC”s most famous and favorite outdoor food market, Smorgasburg, has been announced to reopen this year in all four of its locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Co-founder Eric Demby announced the news when he revealed the sprawling food market would expand to a location in Jersey City on May 29th, the first location to open outside of the NYC and LA area.
Starting June 13th, Demby announced Smorgasburg is set to open first in Prospect Park every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m with 35 vendors so far. Smorgasburg’s Williamsburg location at the Marsha P. Johnson State Park is slated to open back up June 26th, also with the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. As of right now, over 35 vendors have been confirmed and continue to be confirmed within the next month.
Demby said, “One of the many silver linings from the dark cloud of the pandemic is Smorgasburg returning to its roots as a local, community market.”
Demby also noted the lineup to Jersey City’s vendors will be a lot smaller, possibly consisting of only 25 to 30 food vendors which he explains is partially due to the pandemic and the downturn in business for some mobile food vendors.
“Our vendors have been bereft of income for so long,” Demby says. “For any business to start back up right now is so emotional and risky financially that we want a low number of vendors to do really well. We don’t want anyone coming out and losing money.”
So get out their local foodies and support your favorite local mobile food vendors, because they’re going to need it.
