Sept. 3 is National Cinema Day for $3

By Lori Perkins

Even though some post-pandemic movies have been blockbusters (Spiderman: No Way Home and the new Maverick), average movie box office attendance has been low in 2022. According to National Public Radio, younger moviegoers have returned, but the older movie viewer has not and the motion picture industry has decided to do something about it by offering $3 movie tickets at 3,000 theaters throughout the country on Saturday, September 3rd.

These $3 movie tickets include all showings at participating theaters, for regular 2D, as well as IMAX and 3D. Some movie theaters are offing “classic” films like Jaws, but the new blockbusters are also available.

So, I’m going to the movies on Saturday the 3rd with a double header, something I haven’t done since I was a teenager. I’m seeing an 11:30 a.m. showing of The Invitation, then a day by the pool and dinner followed by a 10:00 p.m. showing of Three Thousand Years of Longing, the new Tilda Swinton/Idris Elba film.

Let’s hope they make it an annual event!
