Rumor Has it Marvel is Aware of The Scarlet Witch’s Popularity in the MCU

By David T. Valentin

Following the 2022 San Diego Comic Con reveals from Marvel about their upcoming phase 5 plans, fans were hoping to see Marvel’s plans for Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, and what her involvement might be.

Following the events of Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it was made unclear how long fans of the Scarlet Witch would have to go before they could see the kick ass witch return on the big screen given her sacrifice at the end of the film.

Despite the huge fanbase Elizabeth Olsen has brought in ever since WandaVision with her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff there was no Scarlet Witch solo movie planned for phase 5.

However, fans did notice that Agatha, House of Harkness has moved from its earlier plans of appearing closer in the phase 5 timeline to way, way back all the way to winter 2023/24 according to announcements made during San Diego Comic Con 2022.

Even more interesting is that the title of Agatha: House of Harness has been changed to Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

While we might not be getting a Scarlet Witch solo movie any time soon, many fans couldn’t help theorizing the change in the name for the show might be because Marvel plans to bring the Scarlet Witch back earlier than they planned given the huge push from Scarlet Witch fans.

For those who might not remember, the type of magic unique to Wanda is chaos magic, the manipulation of reality based on manipulating probabilities. While the original plan might have been to focus on Agatha Harkness after the events of Westview and would perhaps reveal Wanda to be alive by the end of the show, it might be that Marvel might be taking a more direct an accurate approach straight from the comics.

In the comics, Agatha started off as a villain to the Fantastic 4. Eventually, she ended up becoming Wanda’s tutor to help her understand her magical abilities, until eventually she met her untimely demise by a very very pissed off Wanda.

Given the name change from House of Harkness to Coven of Chaos, it might be possible fans will get to see an Agatha and Wanda team up much sooner than they anticipated, and sooner than Marvel originally planned.

It’s all exciting news, given that Marvel is actually listening to fans to see more diverse characters on the big screen. Phase four was packed with new characters from all walks of life, and while old-school fans (mostly men) of phase 1, 2 and 3 are kind of pissed phase four and beyond isn’t following the same formula, it’s clear the majority of Marvel fans are incredibly excited and elated to finally see newer, more unique and exciting stories.
