I really wanted to see this because the I was riveted by Pleasure Island in the 1940 Disney animated version and I loved Pleasure Island in Disneyworld that existed in the 90s. Tom Hanks plays Gepetto and Robert Zemekis directed it. It’s got to be good, right? Or at least interesting in a surreal way.
No, it just sucks.
Everything was better in the animated version – Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio’s voice, the blue fairy, Figaro and Cleo, Monstro the whale, the music…I could go on. And Monstro’s not even a whale. It’s some sort of tentacle whale beast that manages to ram itself into a cave.
If you don’t already have Disney +, do NOT buy it for this. If you do, just skip it.
I’m actually glad that Guillermo Del Toro is also re-making this now public domain “classic” and I am praying that that will wash the taste of this dud out of my brain.
