While we were all excited for Millie Bobby Brown’s 18th birthday and what comes next for the actress with her career, we can’t ignore the creepiness lurking on the internet and the long history of child actor’s being taken advantage of and objectified.
Just a week or so before the Stranger Things actresses’ birthday, redditors found an NSFW (Not Safe for Work) subreddit counting down until Millie Bobby Brown turned 18.
The subreddit, which had 6,000 members, was dedicated to posting “sexual pictures” of Millie just as she turned 18, just waiting for the actress to turn from a minor to an adult. The subreddit has now been banned from Reddit accompanied by a statement by a Reddit spokesperson saying, “Reddit’s Content Policy prohibits any sexual or suggestive content involving minors or someone who appears to be a minor. In line with these policies, the community in question was banned. We will continue to enforce our policies across the platform.”
Not only was there a countdown for Millie’s birthday, but comments on her 18th birthday Instagram posts, and previous photoshoots with the actress, have become creepier and more sexual the closer the actress got to her 18th birthday.
Comments like “She behaves like she’s 30,” “Why does she look 25,” and “For god sake she is just 18.” But as one commenter put it so plainly, “Y’all are so fucked for some of these comments.”
