Holiday Date Idea: Ice Bumper Cars

For those bored by the usual ice skating in Bryant Park, Rockefeller Plaza, or Prospect Park, there’s a new contender for some holiday fun with friends or a significant other. Ice bumpers are have arrived in Brooklyn, brought to you by Aviator Sports and Events Center, and they’re everything you’d think ice bumper cars should be.

According to Aviator’s website, their ice bumper cars are the first in New York City, “taking place on a quarter of one of our NHL regulation-sized rinks, ice bumper car sessions will be running during the entirety of [their] weekend public iceskating sessions.” And of course, the ice let’s you bump and slide, making the experience an exciting adrenaline rush!

The bumper cars themselves are certainly interesting. Riders enter into their personal bumper car off the ice, where they’re instructed on how to use the controls of the ice bumper cars. Riders of the car will be placed in the middle of the car, one passenger per car. Each ice bumper car is equipped with two joysticks, pushing them in the same direction to control the direction and the acceleration. To stop the car, you simply release your hands from the handle.

Interested customers can book a reservation online and must show up 15 minutes before your session at customer service. For those who prefer spontaneity, you can snag an ice bumper car at the customer service desk, but there’s no guarantee you will get an ice bumper car, so we recommend planning in advance. For those looking for a quick activity before a dinner date in Brooklyn, reservations are $13 for a 15-minute session.

Though, if you’re looking for a longer date, you can purchase a public skating and ice bumper cars combo. For $26.00, you receive one ice bumper cars session and 4 ½ hours of skating.

As a big fan of carnival rides and carnival dates, I most certainly will be checking out this ice variant of the classic bumper cars. Will you?
