As marketing prep for the much-anticipated Barbie film release this coming July, a Malibu Barbie café pop-up restaurant has opened in Manhattan. It opened today and will run through September 15, but I imagine it will be a HUGE summer attraction, so if you want to go, and live in NYC, go now before the families on vacation arrive and the movie hits.
Designed to look like Barbie’s 1972 beach dream house, it is a splash of pink and turquoise in the midst of gray and black New York City, all the way downtown near South Street Seaport. There are interactive activities (yes, sand and surf boards) as well as instagram-ready photo opps.
Master Chef finalist Becky Brown has designed the food, and there is, of course, a merchandise store on the premises. The whole faux-California-dreaming theme runs through the menu which offers such treats as “Surf’s Up Spinach Artichoke Dip”, “Live Your Dream Grilled Cheese” and “Pacific Paradise Rainbow Pancakes.” Adult beverages are available such as the “Think Pink Margarita” but knowing this may be a mother/daughter tri there are also kid friendly selections such as “Vitamin-Sea OJ.”
You have to make a reservation which starts at $22 for kids and $39 for adults and includes and entrée and a side item. You can always purchase more. For reservations, go to https://bucketlisters.com/experience/malibu-barbie-cafe-new-york
