Vampire Soap Opera Featuring Dracula’s Brides Coming Next Season

ABC just cast Gina Torres as one of the lead roles in the pilot for The Brides, as well as Katherine Reis, Sophia Tatum, and Chris Mason. The new vampire soap opera pilot is being developed from the team behind “Riverdale.”

Variety describes the show as a contemporary reimagining of Dracula with three female leads that will do anything to maintain their wealth, prestige, legacy, nontraditional family and immortality.

Katherine Reis will play Lily Stevens, the youngest Bride of Dracula, a striving singer in New York City whose relationship to a news reporter threatens to tear apart her marriage to her “sisters.” In her former life, she braved the streets of Jack the Ripper’s London, until being “rescued” by Dracula.

Sophia Tatum will play Justine Strang, who arrives completely friendless and new to town, at the studio of Renée Pélagie, a top modeling agent — and the “second” bride of Dracula. Renée soon takes this young, hungry, aspiring model under her wing, unaware that Justine may already have a past with Dracula.

Gina Torres will star as Cleo, one of the three Brides of Dracula and the leader of the main vampire trio. Variety describes Cleo as an imperious woman with a queenly manner — understandably, as she was a queen in her former life, who was turned by Dracula after the death of her husband. Now a maven of New York City real estate, Cleo is challenged professionally by a mysterious newcomer, even as her ties to her sisters are dangerously fraying.

Chris Mason plays Roland Grant, who Variety describes as a stylish real estate mogul, who arrives in town to challenge Cleo for professional supremacy. With secret ties to Dracula, Roland has a personal stake in the destruction of the Brides.

Gina Torres is known for starring in the hit USA series Suits and the spinoff series Pearson.

Katherine Reis currently starring on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Brides first went into development at NBC in 2015 with a pilot production commitment.
