White Women Raised $2 Million For Kamala Harris in 90 Minutes Last, But $8.5 Million In 24 Hours!

By Lori Perkins

And I was there.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to go.  I taught a class on journaling through breast cancer at 6:30 and had a Zoom meeting at 8:00, but I have been feeling a growing excitement the past few days.  You know, just maybe we could join the rest of world and have a female president?

I had been thinking that this time around I was going to do more.  I had really thought Hilary Clinton was going to be my president – even wrote about it in my journal  -- about how I was looking forward to waking up in a whole new era – and I did, just not the one I anticipated.  But I digress.

So when I read that 44,000 Black women had raised  $1 million in a few hours last week and that white women were going to come to the table, I was curious.

I thought I’d just kind of tune in and follow while L made a late dinner.

There were tech problems as soon as I tried to get on, which always aggravates me, until I quickly learned that the reason there were tech problems was because Kamala broke Zoom.  They had originally expected 100,000.  Had to immediately increase that number, but 150,000 was as high as they could go.  They immediately exceeded that and had to move the Zoom to YouTube.  It is reported that 165,000 showed up.

It was going to be a wild night!

And I stayed the whole two hours. I was riveted.  I was enthused.

Amanda Becker wrote on X

“I have covered nat'l politics for 15+ years, including close to 2 embedded covering Clinton's campaign, and I have never been at or listened to an organizing event quite like #AnswerTheCall, a grassroots effort that has attracted 130k+ White women on a Thursday nite”

And the novelist Michel Marshall Smith wrote

“Eavesdropping on Pink speaking on the White Women zoom - my wife is on it - and this really feels like a moment. Trump is done. We're not going back.”

The next day I went on social media to learn that an additional $6 .5 million dollars had been raised for Harris by this #Answerthecall movement.

Let’s face it, Harris has Beyonce’s song as her anthem, Pink donating money and Taylor Swift mobilizing the voter registration troops.  In the words of Stevie Nicks (who is probably getting ready to make her own contribution) it’s going to be a landslide.

Oh, and there’s going to be another Women for Harris Zoom on Monday, July 29th at 7:30.

It was originally scheduled for Saturday, but so many women have signed up they had to get more bandwidth.
