She-Ra Live-Action Series in the Works

By David T. Valentin

Fans of the 1985 She-Ra: Princess of Power and the 2018 run on Netflix She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, rejoice! Just a few days ago, Variety reported that a live-action She-Ra series is in the works.

While the development of the show is headed by Amazon, DreamWorks Animation will lead the project as executive producer, which has prior experience to the Netflix animated series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Although a writer is not attached to the project, yet, it’s unknown if DreamWorks will have any influence on the story.

Despite the popularity of the Netflix run, its twist and turns and its much-needed diversity of a cast, the live-action series will be a new, stand-alone story perhaps similar to Masters of the Universe: Revelation which came out earlier this summer in July.

I’m not sure how this new series will compare to the Netflix adaptation of She-Ra, considering the shows quirky, fun, and at many times, serious and emotional tones throughout its 52-episode run. Although the live-action will be a stand-alone series, I hope the creative team will draw some inspiration from the Netflix series’ intricate plot and diverse cast. Perhaps it could even be an opportunity to see more worldbuilding, something She-Ra and the Princesses of Power fell short on despite its focus on a character-driven story.
