May the Fourth Be With You with Blue Milk and a New Book About Carrie Fisher’s Life as Princess Leia
By Lori Perkins
I love May 4th.
I love that we have a pop culture day where we wallow in what is undeniably one of the great American mythos. When our culture is all gone, they will still be studying Star Wars.
Anyway, I received an email from one of my favorite grocery chains – Stew Leonard’s informing me that for a very limited time (thus week, I believe) I can drink Star Warts milk, which is basically light blue while I binge the nine movies in the series.
But I wanted to think about the women in the series, and, of course, that’s Carrie Fisher, who tragically passed away seven years ago. Instead of re-watching Postcards from the Edge or Wishful Drinking, I read Your Worshipfulness, Princess Leia Starring Carrie Fisher by Jeff Ryan which tells the story of how getting the role of Princess Leia at 20 shaped Carrie Fisher’s life. It was like a documentary run through the Star Wars lens. Riveting.
