At the end of November 2022, The Chicago Instagram page tagged Drag Queen Jinkx Monsoon in a theatre poster that read, “Jinkx Monsoon as Matron “Mama” Morton. And now, finally, we get to see Monsoon in costume!
Jinkx Monsoon, a two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, first in Season Five and then again in RuPaul’s All Stars Season Seven, shared themselves in costume for their debut in Chicago as Matron “Mama” Morton.
For Jinkx Monsoon, this has been a lifelong career goal of the drag queen. “I cannot stress that this has been a lifelong dream of mine. To be making my Broadway debut, as my favorite role, in one of my favorite shows—that lifelong dream is coming true and then some.” Not only will the two-time wining RuPaul’s Drag Race star be fulfilling a lifelong dream, but they will also be making history as the first ever Drag Queen to be playing the role.
The new “Mama” Morton debuted yesterday, Jan. 16th, and will have an eight-week run at the Ambassador Theater.
