Netflix just announced that what we can only expect to be a glorious inclusive historical romance of our dreams, helmed by the incomparable Shonda Rhimes (creator of Grey’s Anatomy) will launch in Christmas Day. Sorry A Christmas Story, but I’ve got other plans this year!
The eight-part mini-series is an adaptation of Julia Quinn’s bestselling romance novels, set in Regency-era England starring Phoebe Dynevoe as Daphne and the very hot Regé-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings! Dame Julie Andrews will provide narration as the show’s mysterious gossip Lady Whistledown.
Below is the Netflix description, but you know with Shonda Rhimes at the helm this is going to be one delicious hot regency mess.
“Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne.
Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings, committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.”
This just may be the best Christmas present ever for a pandemic.
