I am not a Seinfeld fan. I already feel there is too much Seinfeld in my world, so I was not thrilled to learn that someone created a new, 24-hour Seinfeld channel on Twitch featuring endless new nonsense episodes.
But it fascinated me.
The show is titled Nothing, Forever and that definitely sums it up. It features four characters with different names but familiar behaviors – Yvonne as Elaine, Fred as George, Kakler as Kramer and Larry as Jerry.
The Twitch show uses AI tools which have been trained on classic ’90s sitcom scripts to generate miniature scenes of the Seinfeld characters and locations (Jerry’s apartment interior) in pixelated blocky characters in primary colors. And a laugh track.
The show launched on December 14, and now has more than 114,000 subscribers and 10,000 people are watching at one time.
It’s certainly worth a view, although, as promised, nothing really happens (although a recent “episode” did have the characters discuss “why they were here”- “to tell jokes” was the answer).
I hope this is NOT the future, even if it does produce further episodes of cancelled TV shows I once loved – ’60s Batman, Bewitched, original Star Trek? Wait a minute, maybe this isn’t such a bad idea.
