I was shocked to wake up to the news this morning that Chris Evans is NOT People Magazine’s 2021 Sexiest Man Alive. I have to admit that I went to bed yesterday thinking it was a done deal, so you can imagine my chagrin when the editors at this once-esteemed magazine put forth Paul Rudd as the man of all our dreams.
Just no!
Now, it’s not that he’s not cute. He also hasn’t aged in 25 years, so he may be a vampire, which may be how and why the editors of People reached this decision (he glamored them or promised them immortality). But let’s face it, Paul Rudd is the guy you went to the prom with – the cute, funny, smart guy you might even marry after a decade of sowing wild oats (like Chris Evans). He is definitely NOT the sexiest man alive.
Perhaps the editors were feeling we needed something confortable and dependable after a year of pandemic upheaval, but there is no way I can imagine my 18 year-old self transported to today putting up a shirtless poster of Paul Rudd.
But all is not lost. Next year when we finally get Chris Evans as the Sexiest Man Alive, we’ll really appreciate him.
