Sleep in a Giant Wine Barrel in Portugal

For those distracted by the new year and the resolutions you may or may not be sticking to, Valentine’s Day is FAST approaching! For those celebrating Valentine’s Day, it usually entails rose pedals, chocolates (or discounted chocolates the day after if you and your significant other are smart), fancy dinners, a cozy date night, and maybe lots and lots of wine.

But maybe you want to take it a step further, try something new? Like, say, vacationing in a giant wine barrel at the Quinta da Pacheca estate in Duoro Portugal?

That’s right, you read that correctly. You have the opportunity to stay in a wine barrel, complete with a large bed, a glass door facing the vineyard, along with a porch with two cozy chairs and a small coffee table to rest all the wine you’re going to be tasting.

Almost sounds like staying in a log cabin, right? Well, not quite right. According to Metro, “each barrel features high-end amenities like a private bathroom with modern fixtures, a walk-in shower, a large round bed and skylight so you can gaze at the stars, a private terrace, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning”

Of course, if staying in giant wine barrels isn’t your cup of tea, there are normal rooms to accommodate those who require a simpler stay.

A stay in the barrel cost around $286 per night, so it is a bit on the pricier side. But if you’re a lover of wine, it wouldn’t hurt to check it out as a one-night-stay tourist destination if you’re already vacationing in Portugal and don’t mind spending just a little extra cash.
