Charlotte and John Henderson Early in their marriage
John (106) and Charlotte Henderson (105) met in college in 1934 and have been married for 80 years as of December 22nd, although they have been together for 85 years. They never had children and have lived in Texas for most of their lives (they met at University of Texas in Austin and honeymooned in San Antonio in a hotel room that costs $7 a night). They currently reside in an Austin retirement village.
The Guinness Book of World records have certified them as the oldest living couple. John is also the oldest living former University of Texas football player and has attended a game every year since he graduated.
According to an appearance on the Today Show, when asked what contributed to both their longevity and the longevity of their marriage, they joked that it might be that they never had kids, although they also told The Washington Post that they have rarely argued.
