As you may know it’s been three years since Carrie Fisher passed unexpectedly due to a heart attack back in 2016, and a day later Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher’s mother, passed away from a stroke one day later.

On December 25th, Billie Lourd, daughter of Carrie Fisher and granddaughter of Debbie Reynolds, had an uplifting message for those grieving the loss of a loved one during the holidays.

“Sending my love to everyone who has lost someone they loved and is missing them a little extra today. I see you. It’s okay if everything ain’t all merry and bright. It can be a mix of all of it. And it’s all okay.”

“Eat something delish they used to love,” Lourd continued. “Put on one of their favorite songs. Tell a story about them. Cry about them. Call one of their friends you haven’t talked to in a while. Be kind and patient with yourself. Don’t grieve in silence. You’re not alone.”

I think the most important message of all from Lourd is not to grieve in silence and alone. Just the same as we celebrate the merry holiday spirit, eating and drinking and caroling together, she reminds us to lend a shoulder or an ear to those missing a loved one we used to share the merry holiday spirit with.
