I learned about Juneteenth from Ralph Ellison, the author of what I consider to be the greatest literary novel of the 20th century, Invisible Man. Juneteenth was the title of his posthumous second novel published in 1999.  To say I was floored that this holiday was completely unknown to me but considered the Black “Fourth of July” seemed like I had been living in a bubble.  I grew up in New York City, went to public school, and lived in a household that read three daily newspapers, but I had never even heard anyone speak about it.

Thankfully America’s celebrities seem to have learned that ostentatious instagram bragging is not the way to our hearts after two months in isolation, so this year America’s beloved stars have posted a lot of thankful-for-my-mom photos.

Surprisingly, the most heartfelt seemed to be Tallulah Willis’ tribute to her mom, Demi Moore, from whom she was estranged for three years.

"Channeling love and strength to every mother to be, tired mamas, step moms, and mamas who’ve lost something precious. I’m sending it to anyone who struggles to celebrate...

On most Mother’s Day, my grandparents come over from Brooklyn to celebrate. My siblings and I usually buy flowers for our mother and grandmother, while my mother buys our grandmother, her mother, some Godiva chocolates. For the day we’ve indulged in an unhealthy, gluttonous amount of Chinese food for as long as I could remember, enough Chinese food, in fact, to leave us with a week’s worth of leftovers. The point of take out is so that nobody has to cook or clean, making it a convenient cleanup for everyone all around. But despite my mother...

While Mother’s Day in my household is not the most festive of holiday’s, the day reigns as important as a moment where my family can step aside from the daily hassle of our lives to enjoy and embrace the many women, in addition to my own mother, within my family. What is usually filled with brunch and visiting my aunts, uncles, and Grandmother, is this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, will be replaced with stay-at-home festivities.

On a usual Mother’s Day, we first start off by going out to a late breakfast of my mom’s choice, typically on...

All of us at Romance Daily News would like to wish you ALL a happy Cinco de Mayo day, or the fifth of May. But although many Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo, they don’t actually know what the holiday means, often mistaking it for Mexican Independence Day. So what is Cinco de Mayo?

According to the History channel website, history.com, “Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican Army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on...

Easter Season usually reigns as the ideal holiday for families to come together and celebrate the Rising of Christ, if you follow a Christian faith, or even, for some, to simply gather with those whom you might not see so often. Many people, to an extent, according to Connie Chow (founder of dailycaring.com), use Easter as a marking of the entrance into Springtime. Most have their annual traditions; for my family growing up, we,--my younger brother and I--would check early in the morning to observe what the Easter Bunny stuffed our baskets...

As we approach another month of national isolation, the fact that April is National Poetry month is one way we can find and follow our bliss.  Most of us haven’t really thought about, or appreciated, poetry since we were in high school or college, but since we are all home this month, I encourage you to take some time each day to find a poem that will re-invigorate your soul, or at least amuse you.

National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996.  It has since become the largest literary celebration in the worl...

From the snowy romances of Winter to the sweaty and sexy romances of Summer, Romance Daily News covers it all. So when I was tasked with writing up a romance themed article for April 1st, one question came to my mind: can an April Fool’s romance actually exist?

I mean, let’s be real: how many times have we stumbled upon horrible prank break ups that go horribly wrong? Or break up pranks that actually lead to a break up? Honestly. So I did a little digging for some interesting April Fool’s romance stories, and I was not disappointed.

Through m...

Amanda Knox, who spent four years in an Italian prison after being charged with the murder of her college roommate, married Christopher Robinson on leap year day in a space-themed wedding at the Elks Lodge in Burien, Washington.

About 100 guests attended the renaissance and space-themed wedding and were encouraged to wear either medieval attire or Star Wars garb. E News reported that the bride wore a combination of both themes, with her hair in Princess Leia buns and a yellow satin medieval gown.

When journalist Gabrielle Calise stumbled upon an old, grainy, black and white photo featuring a couple, John and Sarah, standing in front of a billboard that read, “John Loves Sarah and will prove it on Feb. 29, 1992, ”it immediately peaked Calise’s curiosity. She wondered why anyone would choose February 29th? Especially when it came only once every four years. Thus her search began. And after her trail ran cold on John and Sarah, she ended up with something far more intriguing than she ever expected.

She discovered a whole group of peopl...

As Valentine’s Day comes to a close, after all the chocolate has been eaten, after all the movies have been watched, and after all the dinner dates are done, let’s remember that it doesn’t take one day in the year to tell someone you love them. And that someone need not be a significant other. It could be a friend, a family member, or even a pet. Just spread the love, somehow.

One anonymous student attending Troy High School in Ohio certainly made sure to spread the love when they decided to prepare colorful origami hearts for their fellow...

Not everyone loves or wants chocolate shaped hearts, and America's candy manufacturers are well aware of that, that’s why Skittles, Lindt and Kit Kat are rolling out something different this year.

Skittles has introduced their Love Mix, which features a combination of red, pink and white candies in the flavors of watermelon, white grape and cherry.

Kit Kat is offering a new Raspberry Crème candy bar, which consists of the familiar crisp wafer, coated in raspberry-flavored white crème. The new candy is a pretty pink chocolate bar.
